Camping Fun

We returned late Wednesday afternoon from an exciting camping trip in Utica IL. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and set up camp at the Starved Rock campgrounds. Chris and Sami diligently worked to put up their tent and mom and dad worked on theirs. (the above photo is about as far as they got, mom with some help from dad finished.) After reading an article in Ranger Rick Chris and Sami were anxious to try Geocaching. So we combined that with hiking through some of Starved Rock and a park in nearby Oglesby, over the next couple of days. We never found either cache, but saw a beautiful waterfall and Sami got a nasty cut on her inner thigh. She slipped while climbing over a fallen tree.
The kids enjoyed exploring the gully behind our campsite and making S'mores. We were sad to leave, but DJ had to get back to help his friend Rich move on Thursday and Sami had an appointment with her orthopedic doctor on Thursday.

He declared her well healed and she is ecstatic to be biking again. She is anxious to start back at gymnastics but has to wait a week for the fall session to start.

Chris is now a black belt recommended in Tae Kwon Do. If he passes his next test in about two months he will be a full black belt. We are very proud of him.

I'm pleased that you had a good time at Starved Rock. Looks like you also went to Matheison State Park - at least I think I recognize that waterfall! I'm so happy that Sami's collarbone has healed, but it sounds like she's always going to run into bumps and bruises along the way. I hope we get to see Chris' black belt attempt. He's worked a long time for this. We're looking forward to seeing you Sunday, and we'd love to hear more details of your adventures.

Almost to a BLACK BELT!?!? That's so impressive!! Way to go, Chris! Your camping trip sounds so delightful. The kids did fine sleeping by themselves in their own tent? Its good to know that day will eventually come. We still have yet to make it through the night in the tent with Gavin. He loves to hang out and play in the tent but when it comes time for sleeping FORGET ABOUT IT. We'll keep trying... Chris and Sami, do you have any tips for us?
