After Sami's gymnastics class on Saturday I took the kids to Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport. It is an animal education center and refuge for large animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Chris and Sami enjoyed playing with and being kissed by baby wolves. They got to pet a skunk that had been de-stinked. I'm pretty sure that's the technical term. We saw cougars, a baby lynx, a baby fox and a black bear that some idiot bought as a baby at a flea market. Apparantly she thought a baby bear would make a good housepet. Jim Nesci and his traveling Cold Blooded Animal Zoo was also there, so they got to pet an alligator and a python. Taking after his Uncle Dave, Chris was quite enamored with the snake. Sami preferred the horses, lambs and donkey, until the donkey nipped her. She was feeding it and the donkey mistook her finger for hay. I'm not sure what possessed her to feed the donkey as five minutes earlier she watched it nip another girl.
Interestingly, the ranch buts right up to a subdivision, so parking is non existent. The ranch runs a shuttle from the parking lot of a nearby business. The shuttle was the highlight of the trip for Samantha. She was jumping up and down to find out she would get to ride a school bus. It was a fun and educational day for us all.

Wonderful Story! I'm glad you all had such a fine adventure. Is Sami's finger OK?
Who would have thought that you could see that many kinds of animals right there in Lockport! Chris and Sami are lucky to have a mom who seeks those kinds of things out.
