Lynx, Wolves and Bears Oh My

After Sami's gymnastics class on Saturday I took the kids to Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport. It is an animal education center and refuge for large animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Chris and Sami enjoyed playing with and being kissed by baby wolves. They got to pet a skunk that had been de-stinked. I'm pretty sure that's the technical term. We saw cougars, a baby lynx, a baby fox and a black bear that some idiot bought as a baby at a flea market. Apparantly she thought a baby bear would make a good housepet. Jim Nesci and his traveling Cold Blooded Animal Zoo was also there, so they got to pet an alligator and a python. Taking after his Uncle Dave, Chris was quite enamored with the snake. Sami preferred the horses, lambs and donkey, until the donkey nipped her. She was feeding it and the donkey mistook her finger for hay. I'm not sure what possessed her to feed the donkey as five minutes earlier she watched it nip another girl.

Interestingly, the ranch buts right up to a subdivision, so parking is non existent. The ranch runs a shuttle from the parking lot of a nearby business. The shuttle was the highlight of the trip for Samantha. She was jumping up and down to find out she would get to ride a school bus. It was a fun and educational day for us all.

...

Hi all,

I've been trying for several days now to post some videos of Evelyn chasing Fuzzball and of her climbing the stairs after Chloe, but they aren't uploading. So, here are some unrelated pictures.

We continue to house hunt, but are quite selective. Good thing we aren't in a hurry to move.

Dave had a company picnic on Friday and we think he got bit by something on the back of his neck. It's super red and swelled up something crazy, even his glands are huge. He had a fever with shivers on Saturday night and says it's painful and itchy. He went to the acute care center yesterday. They are treating him for cellulitis and put him on 2 antibiotics. So far, he's no better. If these meds don't work he'll have to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics. The doctor couldn't say how he got it. Cross your fingers these meds do the trick.

Will keep you posted...

There they go...

Pop and Bob left this morning a little before 8 am. They hope to push hard and get home by tomorrow night. We really enjoyed their visit and I think they did too. On Wednesday morning we ate at Angie's for breakfast. While Brandon and I were at work Pop and Bob took a hike in the Wellsville Mountains and that evening Pop took us all out to dinner at Cafe Sabor for Brandon's birthday. Yesterday while Brandon and I were at work Pop and Bob drove up to Tony Grove where the wildflowers were in full bloom. Later in the day we all went to Porcupine Reservoir for a little boating and relaxing on the shore. We closed out their visit with burritos and beer and a little ping pong.

Pop & Bob

Pop and Bob arrived in Hyrum yesterday in time for dinner. Today they're going to hang out in Logan Canyon while Brandon plays hooky (literally) from work and goes fishing :).

10 months

Hi there! Today I'm 10 months old. I've done a lot of growing up since last month. For starters, I'm crawling all over the place. I love to explore! I have the most fun pulling myself up so I can stand. Crawling towards Chloe and Fuzzball is lots of fun too. They don't know what to make of me being mobile.

I'm eating more and more people food. I seem to love everything, except cottage cheese. It just feels funny in my mouth. Yesterday, I even tried cat food. Ya know, it wasn't half bad. :)
I've pretty much mastered drinking out of a sippy cup. I just forget sometimes that I have to tip it up as I'm drinking, otherwise I just suck air.

I love playing with my friends at school. I learned a valuable lesson too. Don't put your fingers in someone elses mouth because you might get bit.

When the weathers nice, I like to play outside. See me in my sprinkler pool!
