5 years and 6 months...

Hello all,

Here we are on our 5th wedding anniversary. Notice the beautiful flowers I'm holding??... They're from my wonderful husband.

We had a very nice day. We pulled weeds and did some planting of flowers in the backyard. Then we went to Chili's for dinner.

On Thursday night we went to see Stone Temple Pilots at an outdoor venue in the city, right next to the lake. It was a great time, but we were rather chilly.

And here I am 6 months preggo. I'm feeling well, but tire quite easily. Little peanut has been very active these days. It's still such a surreal feeling.

I've been very busy cleaning and organizing since our neighborhood garage sale is this weekend. I hope it's a success. Then we can begin to think about the baby's room.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day holiday. I will be enjoying it at work.

Love,
Melissa

5 years!

A very happy 5th anniversary to Dave and Melissa! I can't believe it's been 5 years already. I hope you had a good time at the concert.
Pop's gone to work and I'm puttering around. I wish I didn't feel so disorganized 'cuz I know there are a lot of things I'd like to accomplish but I have trouble zeroing in on any one thing.
Is anyone doing anything fun this weekend? Our big plans all revolve around yard work.
I took Gram to the dentist on Thursday and the new bridge didn't fit. It had to be sent back to the lab for revisions, so she's still without her upper teeth. We don't know when it will be ready, what with the long weekend. She's a little depressed, also because her eyes have been especially bad these past few days. If anyone wanted to give her a call I'm sure she would appreciate it.
Happy Memorial Day to you all!

Family Heirloom

I finally moved Gavin's cradle out of our bedroom. He hasn't slept in it for about 4 months but it's served me well as a catch-all for not-quite-dirty clothes, slippers, binkys, toys, etc. As instructed by Pop, I put Gavin's name and birth date on the bottom. I opted to do it with a wood burning kit. I'd never used one before but I think it turned out ok. My next challenge is to find a Rubbermaid-type tub to store it in. They don't seem to make one wide enough. Anybody have any other clever ideas for storing this priceless heirloom so that it doesn't get dented, scratched, wet, or otherwise marred?

Linda's Back!

It's been awhile since I posted anything, and I know that some of you know what's been going on, but here it is in summary:

When I went last Tuesday (8 days ago) to spend 48 hours with Gram and give Linda a couple of days off, we discovered after she left that she had taken all of her belongings with her. She apparently hated to leave like that, but she was exhausted from so many consecutive nights of getting up 4 or 5 times to take Gram to the bathroom. We got a replacement caregiver who started Thursday evening, but it wasn't a good fit. Her name was Irena, 60 years old, and nothing like Linda. She complained about everything, yelled at Gram, refused to follow any instruction from Gram, etc. On Mother's Day we let her go out with her husband for 2+ hours, but she came back just as cranky. Meanwhile, Linda called Gram that same Sunday and told her she would like to come back. She had slept a whole lot for a few days and was feeling rested and missed Gram. On Monday, Gram got a phone call from someone who was checking Linda's references for another job, so Gram called me and I called Dan and we got the whole thing in motion whereby Irena left on Tuesday at 4:45 and Linda came back at 6:00. Gram is happy, Linda is happy, Irena is happy and I'm happy. The doctor at the Devonshire prescribed something that will relax her bladder and hopefully prevent her from getting up as often during the night. She took the first pill last night and still got up 4 times. But, she's been getting up by herself so Linda only heard her a couple of times and managed to get a good night's sleep. Gram is unhappy because 30 pills cost more than $120. Took Gram to Dr. Barhamand today and things are pretty much the same. Still no weight bearing on that right leg. Last week she had another incident of swelling and severe pain in the hip area and now, many days later, there's extensive bruising and soreness on her backside. He wants her to start taking iron supplements along with her multi-vitamin since her blood count is low from the new bleeding.

We, and Marilyn and Gerry, enjoyed ourselves at the Kane County Cougars game on Monday night. Chris and Sami had joined a reading club sponsored by the Cougars, and they were each rewarded tickets to the game, along with T shirts and the opportunity to march all around the field before the start of the game. The Cougars won, and it was a beautiful evening in spite of being quite cool (cold?). We spent some of our time watching a pair of hawks who appear to have a nest way up in the lighting structures in the outfield.

Pop has the garden tilled and most of the seeds are planted. It's still a bit cool to put in the pepper and tomato plants, but we'll probably do that by the weekend.

All for now. What's going on in your little corners of the world?

Love, Mom

stuff

A few things:

Found the best stuff to deal with the parade of ants that comes every spring. Terro Ant Bait. It initially brings on more ants, but they all either die or return the stuff to the queen, and soon the whole colony is gone. We got it at Ace Hardware and I've seen it at Walgreens.

Melissa - Baskin-Robbins will offer a free 3 oz. soft serve cup or cone to expectant mothers on Weds., May 21 from 11 AM until 10 PM.

Naperville will be having a Kite Fly Festival on June 7th and 8th. If anyone is interested, I'll get more info.

Happy Friday!!!

Hi All,

Dave and I went for the ultrasound, but were disappointed. :( There were 2 technicians training each other on new equipment. They seemed to be preoccupied. They said they would explain everything at the end, after they were done measuring, but didn't. It ended abruptly. Bottom line...we couldn't see anything! Dave wasn't sure what he was looking for or at and the screen was very dark at my angle. The only real body part they pointed out was a frontal shot of peanuts head. I asked if we could have a picture, which they handed us 3, all of the head, which aren't worthy of posting. So, a disappointment it was. But, on a good note, the doctor said peanut looks great, which is really what matters. The heartbeat remains strong and regular. I've been feeling consistent movement the past week. How super cool! I really wish men could share the feeling to help put things in perspective and to share in the joy.

Nothing else is going on. I think we may register, or begin to register this weekend. I have a continuing education class for my massage license, both Sat and Sun, 3 hours each day, so we'll see. And Dave's new Grand Theft Auto game is calling his name. :)

Peggy, I hope your surgery went well yesterday and that your mouth isn't too sore this morning.
Any caregiver news? Gram could try stopping fluid intake a few hours before bed, which will decrease the number of times she has to get up in the night. Just a thought...

It's nice to see Gavin enjoying daycare. I love the name little monsters. :)

Enjoy the weekend...
Love,
Melissa
